Tempered Glass Table Answered

I was thinking of making a tempered glass worktable or desk, and was wondering if it was practical.

  • Would it overheat from a left out soldering iron?
  • How much weight would it hold?
  • Would glass for the outer layers be better?

I'm a complete and utter noob when it comes to glass and most furniture, so any help would be appreciated. Also my worktable is here.

*Would it overheat from a left out soldering iron?

In the video, they had already broken it on pupose...

*How much weight would it hold?

Looks like at least their feet propped up on it...

*Would glass for the outer layers be better?

Glass on a solid background (like on top of a table) will be much more "sturdy"

Whats wrong with a nice bit of wood? at least them you would be able to hammer and drill on it with no worries...

Cool video! I'd recommend some sort of safety glass though. They might make glass that is both.
