Tesla Coil Wedding Cake Topper? Answered

My fiancé and I are going to embrace our geekiness at our wedding...he has already built a medium sized Tesla Coil and thought it would be cool to have a small tesla coil as a wedding cake topper. Does anyone know if this is possible without burning the joint down or some other disaster? Any help with some plans  or other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!

I disagree with Rick on this one, a Tesla is probably safer - at least a small one, but how about one of those plasma globes instead ?

If you want to be funky, have the obligatory bride and groom figures hold the globe - and put wires in their hands to pull the arcs in the globe to the figures.

+1. Anything with an external arc is gonna be loud and obnoxious -- you'll only be able to use it for a short time before the cake is cut with everyone at a safe distance...not to mention the awful radio/electronic noise it would add to any people trying to videotape anything within a hundred meters :D

Whimhurst or van de graff would be more sizable and safer.
