The Childen of Instructables Answered

Recently, I have seen that there's actually a lot people under 21 here on instructables. Have you ever stopped to think what will happen to kids who find this site? With more and more of all the knowledge of people here, I've come to think that most of us under 18 here on instructables will have quite an advantage on life over other people. I'm thinkin that kids that find Instructables will end up with super careers like Special Effects or something. Mostly engineers

Yes we are going to have an advantage....more creative minds.... We are always reading on this site and reading is learning... BOOKS ARE BORING well the ones in my library I would rather read something on the internet or watch discovery channel or hang out with my friends then anything else. But I like it here on instructabkles everybody is smart . I am only thirteen..... and I wanna be a pilot and a chef. This place is the bomb......

I'm 12, and I want to be either a Chef, or a marine biologist..... kinda odd, I either wanna research the fish, or I wanna cook it.... eh. I'm an odd kid. I'm way too smart & mature 4 my age(common opinion in our house). God, i wanna have a kid's common sense, not an adult's. it keeps me from doing things.

smart as in street smart or book smart or inventive smart? it's good to be mature, picks up the ladies ;) No girl wants to go out with a jackass can I say that on the forum? Flag me if I can't, just saying

No girl wants to go with a jackass

Where have you been all these years?! From what I've seen, its the exact opposite

it keeps me from doing things.

Like blowing your arm off with an explosive ? :-)

Ya. stuff like that. and other stupid things that could get me or other people hurt. i do martial arts, tho.

In high school I was into Isshinryu karate-do mostly.

Although the popular view is that ninjutsu is the art of secrecy or stealth, actual practitioners consider it to mean the art of enduring - enduring all of life's hardships. (Hayes, Stephen. “The Mystic Arts of the Ninja.” 1985: 1) Understood.

ninjas were upgraded to near mythical status in feudal japan. Is that quote from a book? and would you reccomend it?

It is a quote from a book, but I was literally quoting someone else that quoted the book. I am not familiar with the book.

Ehh. I'll look it up later. I gotta sleep now. holy crap, I just realized it's 12:30..... D:

Hey pal, I'm in third year marine and freshwater biology, its pretty great. But than again, when I was 12 I wanted to be a dentist!

Haha, aww, those are the two things I wanted to be when I was younger! Marine biologist part never happened, but I am quite the amateur chef. :D

I'm 13 years old, and I want to be an electric engineer. I also want to go to MIT, I hope I have a chance there.

you're 13????/ Really???? Wow, I though most people here were like 20something. Turns out theres a lot of 15's

im 14, and also want to go into electrical engineering. (possibly high voltage work with hydro-quebec)

sweet, you're a lot more knowledgable than me, are you self taught? If you are what books did you read? I've read: Robot building for dummies (piece of crap) Electronics for dummies (kinda crappy, but not bad) Robot builders bonanza (pretty good) teach yourself electricity and electronics (great, but boring) practical electronics for inventors (really good, the part I like most is the water analogies that you don't find as good ones anywhere else.) Right now I dont entirely get how to use transistors (I got 200x 2n3904 a couple of days ago) and I don't entireley get inductors, but im learning.

i read the first 2 on your list. i got them used. not really interesting. and my book also has electronic analogies with water. if it makes you feel better, i didnt fully get transistors until 3 weeks ago

You'll only feel fourteen the day before you turn fifteen. There's some Goodhart equate wisdom right there :P.

Yeah, you start feeling 14 when you turn 15, and you feel 15 when you turn 16. Its really weird.

I don't believe it. Mainly because I forgot my 16th birthday.

All the children will turn into potatoes and create mind blowing works of technological wonder! We will be run by the potatoes!

this is confusing. somtimes, like when i cut a large lopsided hole in the side of my computer case for a window, i really didnt think. but i must be, because no one else cut the hole in the pannel.

It's art... yeha I think therefore I am doesn't work, there are times I know in my head I wasn't thinking, at all not just not thinking clearly but not one thought when through my head.

like when i cut a large lopsided hole in the side of my computer case for a window

That really is NOT the best way to install Windows LOL

after sanding and installing plexiglass, it didnt look half bad. but i decided to install ubuntu later on.

so....like birth will be budding? Just throwing it out there.

hurmmmmm... Strange thoughts, strange thoughts... Humans/potatoes budding? What a grotesque and disturbing image manifests itself at the thought!!!! Perhaps I meant having many eyes?! I guess I will never remember! Now we ride off, Geldhemoor!

*ahem* 155

aw crud.....I checked my IQ results thingies....turns out I'm not good at remembering........its 141 not 147.......aw

*is confused because thought IQ was like golf...*

Bigger = better.

Most IQ scales start at 70. Only 2% of the population have an IQ over 142, and are officially classed as genius, no matter how sensible or educated they are (or are not). You need an IQ of 148 to be invited to join Mensa.

lol, i was just kidding. last IQ test i got i was marked 127; that was in 3rd grade (im now in 9th) i think the "average" 3rd grader was at 100, so i guess i was doing pretty good, but the school said in order to be counted as "gifted", i needed to have an IQ of 130; that was a load though because the principal and majority of the teachers at that school did NOT like me, because i was a little wise guy :]

IQ tests are age-weighted, so the average is always 100, no matter what your age. (Most tests that UK schools use only go up to 130...)

yeah, i thought it was age weighted... though i'm still not sure exactly how they do that. in my opinion, i dont think that IQ tests are an accurate representation of how smart a person is. what would you say?

Agreed - much more important is attitude, persistence and willingness to learn.

Child geniuses may be mentally capable of gaining a PhD in maths by the time they're 12, but they're not emotionally capable of it - I wonder how many of them burn out and go quietly fruit-loops before they reach the age of majority?

ay, thats my argument precisely. besides, i think the majority of IQ tests are mostly math and logic, which, dont get me wrong, are important, but as you've said important qualities aren't tested, and they really can't be

The child geniuses that that finish school at age 12....like what do they do after they graduate? Don;t think they would get a job.....do the like sit around all day? Or maybe they go intern somewhere?

they make occasional appearances on random talk shows, such as Oprah :]

And most internet tests are wieghted to report higher scores than what it really is.

That's why I never believe people when they report an IQ over 110.
I get really suspicious when they report over 150... *cough Kiteman cough*
;-P (I don't doubt that its high, I'm just a little curious...)

I've never taken a real IQ test, or I'd throw mine in there.

After reading below -- awesome for you. *basks in smart-person's aurora*

im at 150 the last time i took the test.
