Total Views Tracker - 13/01/2011 Answered

Here's this week's tally! The group's now got over 150 members, 50 of which joined since mid December!

I didn't get around to making the changes to the script I promised last week, I hope to add links to the list and automatic patch giving soon; I just haven't had time recently!

This forum topic is a printout of the results of a Perl script I run weekly. To be included in it, join this  group. The Perl script visits the profile page of each member of the group and extracts their Total Views then saves them to a file that can be opened by me in Excel. I then post the last 3 columns so everyone can compare their weekly gain with their friends. While you can easily see this data for you on the You page, this script allows people to compare their success/gain with their friends. I hand out patches as achievements when members of the group reach 50k, 100k, 250k, 500k and 1m views.

Well, I'm not so bad, could be worse. I make a suggestion: that the name of each author be a link to his page, so one can quickly see what his collaborations are about.

Hi, he suggested doing so last week, but as you can read in the description "I didn't get around to making the changes to the script I promised last week, I hope to add links to the list and automatic patch giving soon; I just haven't had time recently!".

I think it's a really good idea.

:) Work's been really busy so any spare time I've had I haven't felt like writing Perl.

Personally I'm only i it to see how the view count changes month in month out since I have become more I'ble-active (Thats like Hyper active... just less rittalin and more robots)

Have a High Five anyway

A long time ago I've programmed some pearl as well and I can totally understand why you were not too motivated ;-).

Thanks, I hope to write in that feature soon. Creativeman also suggested that I add milestones for the amount of Instructables too, which would be easier to keep up with the patches I owe once they're done automatically.

Sorry, I had not read that was in your plans to include links. As English is not my native language, I find it a bit difficult sometimes, then I skip some paragraphs.

No joke, people with more views than me need to stop joining this group and get a life. Bunch of losers.

Gah! I left the house hoping to come back to a million views... When I published my last two it was 4K away, weird that they didn't make the gap.

Well, I have plenty of things to do and write up, but been working on a mini project, which I intend to write up now. Get it done and sorted rather than lingering around.

I might get around to writing up some more stuff later, but I want to work on a film scanner for my DSLR.

Funny I've been thinking about putting a film scanner together myself, I'm pretty sure I saw a negative mount for duplicating them on another film which might be adaptable, but it's deep in the photography pile, also my DSLR isn't 35mm so unsure... Let me know how it goes.

I will probably put up a slideshow, but not a full ible, there are plenty of instructions out there. Plus its hard to take pictures as you go along when your camera needs to be in the pictures!

Here is todays efforts, just published it.

Lovely 'ible...

I've found that as long as I've got plenty of light my phone's camera does seriously good photos, in fact the macro's better than most point and shoots, so that helps. Was fiddling with a project today but didn't get the chance to use it, but next gig.

I just checked statscard... Passed one million today...

Well I'm off to a good start this year. More than 170k views in two weeks :D and almost 500k views on YouTube :o

Anyway, it would be interesting to have a column with the number of instructables for each user.

Also, the date for the two views columns are identical..
