Type of mold-making material and time required? Answered

Hi, I am trying to respond directly to your question back to me, and I can't figure out how to do that! So, I am starting over. I was considering using Moulage to make the mold. The place where I teach prohibits toxic materials, so silicone is out. Can you recommend other materials for making a mold, and if yes, the time required? thank you! Alexandra

Hi Alexandra,

Sorry for my delayed response! I would recommend using alginate or any other gelatin mold compound. InstaMold is a popular brand and available at most craft supply stores. It sets in minutes and casts plaster very well. Depending on the type of each that you use and the size of the piece, plaster sets in 30-60 minutes. I hope that helps!

Happy making,
