Uploading a remixed song? Answered

Hi guys.
Recently I remixed a song using garageband, well technically it's not a remix. I just combined the original song with the remixed song. And I was wondering if it is illegal to post it on youtube or something like that.

Under the Fair Use section of the copyright laws you should be allowed to post remixes as long as you are not making any money off of it (If your channel is monetized then I'd contact Youtube and ask before posting). Also make sure you properly credit the original artists in the description and even in the video if possible.

So, basically your saying that if I'm not selling it it's ok to post it? I don't know what you mean by "If your channel is monetized?"

If you don't know what it is then it isn't. Monetizing your channels allows youtube to but ads in, before, or next to your videos and then they pay you a small amount based on the number of views or clicks the video/ads get.

You should be fine but because Youtube may be making some money off it the copyright owner may still ask for it to be removed. It is important to credit the original artist. If you don't it can be taken down regardless of anybody making money on it.
