FYI, Caps Lock is /not/ Cruise Control for Cool, nor does it make your question any clearer. As a teenager, I may seem biased in my own generation's favour, but I've found that, there is usually a breakdown in communication between the generations, with each group not fully understanding the viewpoint of the other. Yes, us teenagers can be real pains sometimes, but give us time, with proper supervision, boundaries and support, we will become well balanced adults someday, and we can all look back on our teen years and chuckle. Just, bear with us (:

Lay down clear lines, define clear consequences for crossing them, stick to them consistently.

Buy and read the book "Love and Logic"! It's fantastic. They have one for kids and a "Love and Logic for Teens". This book has been like a parenting bible for us. Here is the web site, there are free pod casts and articles on the site.

Most book stores have the book but here is a link to amazon so you can read a little more about what the book talks about......

No simple answer, I'm afraid. Depends on the kid, the situation, how unreasonable you and/or they are being. Sometimes the best answer is to admit that some things really don't matter all that much and let it go. Sometimes the answer is to withhold privileges -- allowance, transportation, that sort of thing. Sometimes, especially when the "kids" are getting toward being young adults, the best solution is to invite them to find an apartment somewhere nearby, so they can do their own thing without disrupting your life. You're dealing with an intelligent animal. Threats aren't all that effective. Clear consequences are... but overreacting may reinforce the behavior, especially if what they really want is attention. Stay calm, stay focused... and if necessary, there's no shame in talking to experts. (Free advice tends to be worth about what you pay for it.)

Take control, and tell them that they can't do a specific thing when they want to do that specific thing
