What brand and method is used to glue inner tubes? Answered

I have several Instructables that I want to make using inner tubes.  I have used a couple of rubber type glues and sanded the inner tube and it still does not bond well.  I will appreciate any suggestions.  I need a good bond.  Thanks.

Sylvia, one of the causes that you can't adhere rubber is possibly you don't wait enough before stick both pieces. Think that the rubber doesn't permit to dry the adhesive, then you must leave it dry 20 or 30 minutes. Yes, it seems a lot of time, but if you do that, will have success.

  • Do not be stingy with the adhesive layer, it should be no less than 1 mm thick over both parts.
  • Wait 20 or 30 minutes.
  • The only precaution during that time is to avoid the dust.
  • Once you put both parts in contact, you must press them firmly a few seconds. I use a hammer!

Thanks rimar! I am going to be working on this pretty soon. I did wait to allow it to dry like a day or two. Maybe it was because I did not apply pressure or add enough glue! I am getting excited because this one is going to be so much fun to make. Thanks for your help!

Sylvia, "a day or two" is too much time! The adhesive overdries. Although the times aren't precise, they have limits.

Thanks rimar! I will let you know how it turns out.

When I say "it should be no less than 1 mm thick" I must add "when it is freshly placed". When it dries, the layer is very thin.

Using tire patch glue, rough up both clean pieces, apply glue, light it on fire for a few seconds, and put them together. (Beforehand have 2 scraps of wood and vice grips) apply the wood to each side and clamp down with the give grips. Let it sit 20 minutes. That should do it...... it always works on my bike patches. Let me know :)

Thanks onrust! I will try this. It sounds like a winner to me! Have a be-you- ti-ful Day!
