I saw this thing on lilblueboo's profile called 'send me a patch' and I was wondering what it was....
A patch received on Instructables is very similar to a girl or boy scout patch (aka Insignia). The more you earn, the more you show that you have what it takes to be a valued Instructables community member!Anyone can receive patches, but only "pro" (aka paid) members have the ability to give them out.For more information, see this page: https://www.instructables.com/static/gopro/patches.jsp

This is the sort of thing that people care about who care about this sort of thing.
If someone has to give me a patch to make me feel useful or respected, I'm doing something very wrong.
So, if you were to act in a play, and the audience sat silent at the end, you'd feel fine?
Everybody likes having their contributions acknowledged somehow, no matter who they are.
Some folks need the feedback. Some are perfectly happy with "thanks" (or are trying for the Best Answer flag). Some of us just like the challenge and entertainment of answering a good question. To answer the question you asked (which isn't the one you wanted to ask): Sometimes the greatest reception a performance can get *is* a minute of stunned silence, as the audience sits there absorbing the last moment and reluctant to break the mood. If I can get lead someone into a state where their response is a barely voiced "wow", _THAT'S_ a performance I can be proud of.Different folks, different goals, different assumptions, different motivators. If it works for you, great. Not my style.
I agree totally with orksecurity.
If you are a pro member, you get a quota of patches that you can send to people for whatever reason you like.
I have been using them as small contest prizes.
There is a basic set of patches you can use, or you can upload your own images. This is a patch I award to people who write cool haiku.
That patch is very appropriate.
Patches are virtual "stickers" you can send to different people if you are a Pro Member. You can also receive patches from others, and you don't have to be a Pro Member. The Instructables Team may hand out patches for contests as rewards sometimes, too.
It's something that a Pro can send to you if they like you or think you deserve a "gold star".
