ive owned few rifles in my life but in 308 and a good price i would get a savage . for the price you can beat the accuratesy out of the box there about the best. love the trigers. every one ive owned shot very good and if you reload with the right combination you could get 1\2 to 1 inch groups at hundred yards.

Depends on how much cash you can spend. A new Springfield M1 will cost at least $1600. AR-10 would cost around $1200. Then there is the worldwide proven FAL from $700+. All use .308, just see what fits you.
i own a .308 they're great guns and they don't bruise my shoulder like a 30-06 does. i recommend the 750 series remington makes in the .308. They're very versatile, light, durable, and definitely medium to long range.
For an accurate .30-06 rifle you can look into the Civilian Marksmanship Program. They refinish old M1 Garands and sell them dirt cheap. Plus you'd own, "The rifle that won The War."http://www.thecmp.org/m1garand.htm
