I like ClamAV, it is free, open-source and reliable and there is a a free online virus scan available based on ClamAV.

yourself. antivirus dosen't do any good but protect you from out of date viruses or people that are to lazy to crypt them FUD. i would suggest using AVAST and malewere bytes, and bieng carefull what you download, but if you really need anything dificult deleted your gonna have to do it manually. i'd sugest becoming familiar with your process and programs that are supposed to be there so that when any malware shows up you will be able to spot it with ease.
+1 I personally use the free version of comodo... but there is no substitute for being careful.
This is hugely a matter of opinion.Depends on if you want to pay or notpersonally I use AVAST it updates around every 5 hours or so and seems to be very efficient.
