What type of PAINT can be used to paint over logos on denier polyester conference or tote bags? Answered

You know those denier polyester shoulder or tote bags that you get from conferences or promo giveaways? I'd like to paint over the logos or text that were screen printed on them, making them more attractive and fun for everyday use (rather than being a walking billboard).

What kind of paint adheres to the denier polyester and is opaque enough to cover existing logos/text and also does not rub/wash off?

If paint won't do the trick for some odd reason, also consider inkjet iron-on transfer paper. You can make any design you like and just iron it over the logos. It's pretty cool stuff.

I'm thinking the high heat to affix the iron transfer will melt the polyester? Thanks for the idea!

If you keep the iron moving and use the parchment that comes with the transfer paper between the iron and the fabric, it should be fine. Might be worthwhile doing a test piece first, just to be safe.

An alternative would be to remove the logos with a mild solvent.  Detergent and good scrubbing (e.g. with a stiff brush or Scotch-Brite) ought to the trick with the cheaper ones; you might have to ramp up to isopropyl alcohol to get the adhesive loose on a better quality bag.

Acrylic artist paint will work great.  So will the paint sold in craft stores to paint on fabric.
