Where can I find other sources of heat for a dehydrator? Answered

I am in the process of planning a food dehydrator and i am wondering if you can get the heat needed to preserve meats~160F or 71C~ from a lightbulb(or two?)

Halogen bulbs are the way to go, those things get crazy hot.

A year late Answer , You can also use an old waterbead heater , I'm in the northwest in a covergence zone that acts like a rain forest so a heat source is a must.

Your best bet for dehydration is to not use heat at all. Just keep a ready supply of dry air passing over whatever you want dehydrated. If you use heat, you aren't "dehydrating"; you're "cooking". Granted, this will take some time, especially if you are drying out meat, and the meat is sliced thick, but it's the best way to go. If you're worried about the food spoiling before it gets dry, you could always marinate it in ascorbic acid or some other preservative first.

An incandescent lightbulb is the standard heat source for many homemade dehydrators. Wattage depends on the size of your enclosure, most use 100-200 watts but I don't remember the dimensions.
