Where have all the oranges gone? Long time passing... Answered

Yes, I know this was announced as a feature, but it's still a bug in my book!  Why has the orange masthead been abandoned?  It's the characteristic color of Instructables.  Taking it away is diluting the brand.

I've turned the header back to orange with userstyles and:

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document domain("instructables.com") {
#div, .nav {background: url("https://www.instructables.com/files/orig/FI2/S2YR/GF0708T4/FI2S2YRGF0708T4.jpg"); }}

I'm very confused, why it's only working with a background image and not with a background-color... Maybe somebody who is better in css than me (probably everybody) can try it.

I think the site should be black, or some dark-ish color. Why? Your monitor is not a piece of paper, no matter how hard you try to make it one. Staring at a white background while you read is like staring at a light bulb (don't believe me? Try turning off the lights next time you use a word processor). Would you stare at a light bulb for hours at a time? Not if you want to keep your vision.

If staring at your monitor is like looking into a light bulb, I suggest you familiarize yourself with the brightness control on your computer.

The brightness bar is less than 1/4 full.

Then you should be using "userstyles."

Userstyles only worked on the header as I recall...

DIY. _My_ userstyles only worked on the header. The possibilities are endless for _your_ userstyles.

I wouldn't have the faintest clue on how to make a userstyle. Perhaps this calls for an instructable?

I agree.

Case in point.... Steve's son standing behind me as I type... "Whoahhhh. Why's it white! Looks weird."

Perhaps a greasemonkey script is in order.

Ironically, I wrote userstyles awhile back to achieve just this state!

Can you update it to include a version that restores the Orange default? That, too, would be ironic :-D

Well, I could, or I could leave it to the whining bawl-babies to learn a little CSS. :P At the moment, it's number 500 on my top 10 list of Things To Do, I'm afraid.

Agreed, I thought it just hadn't completely loaded. I suppose I could get used to it, but it makes the search box kind of ugly, and I don't like how the words are just left floating around up there.

I like the shorter header but the lack of orange is a real bother, makes the orange themes of the pages look lost and the search box look messy, also the halloween piece sat better with the orange background.

.  I like that it takes up less real estate, but I have to agree that the lack of orange is disconcerting. Ibles is supposed to be orange.
.  Might help to change the background of the info box on the right from yellowish to orange.
