Whew.... ! ! ! ! ! I thought I might never see you all again (this month)..... Answered

Since last night (07/ 09/ 08) Until moments ago, I was unable to connect to the web through a browser ( my ISP said I was connected, but I was having NO luck bringing up a page from anywhere). Finally, after 6 restores, 9 reboots, one wasted service call to the ISP, 30+ tweaks that I now have to go and put back (since they didn't help at ALL), I had had it, and restored back to SUNDAY (cursed MicroSoft Critical Updates). It worked. And my 18 hour hiatus is finally over.....I was getting very worried ( partially since I pay most of my bills on line, they would be late if I had to snail mail them). Glad to see you all are still behaving LOL.

I fiddled with it for about an hour or so, and got the pics off, but it still doesn't connect "normally" like it should *sigh*. I may have to uninstall and reinstall the software. It might just be a corrupted driver or something.

Well, the camera seems to work. And since I was able to extract the pictures using a utility, I am assuming my USB port is ok too. I am thinking rather that the software or some component thereof got corrupted. Time to try an uninstall reinstall.

Well, I certainly do not have the resources to "switch out" for awhile :-) I have to deal with it ... After my restore, my connection speed seems to have dropped to near Dial up levels.....I am starting to really be upset with MS...

Goodhart, what does she have trouble with? I work with-ahem-electronically challenged people a whole lot. People who don't know how to do anything other than boot up a computer-if that. But I always manage to get them where they need to go (not to brag). If you and she would like, I could write up an ible.

Sadly, she has a more generalized problem: lack of enthusiasm. That is, she lacks any desire to learn new things as this needs effort to do so, and she seems unwilling to put forth the effort. As long as I am here to answer the questions, she is satisfied with not knowing. It is a defeatist attitude in my opinion, but I have no way to changer her, so I have to try to work with it.

Hmmm...I have been known to motivate the most hard core of technology haters...want me to try anyway? Would she like to know how to get music off the net (legally) ? Watch movies and tv? Check out audio ebooks from the library? Play brain games? Would she like to know how to find sites that would interest her? Like sewing, or cavies, or whatever it is that is her "thing"?

She is not a tech hater, she uses it for her eBay excursions.....She is more anti-motivated to do anything that requires extra work (learning for instance).

As for the string of questions, I would think her answers would be: no, no, no, no (for sure), no as she has few interests outside her eBay....

Ew, DSL(inux), IMO, is pretty bad, especially if its your first time using linux, and obsolete in today's world, now that you can get a 1GB thumb drive for under $20. As for RCT3, well... sort of, with work. You could use a Virtual Machine, to run windows inside linux, and you'd probably get that to work. However, some people have had some problems running it in linux. Notably, it appears no one has gotten background music to work. It will require a bit of work to get it working, (finding DLL's, &c;) but it might be playable. Oh, and no one has gotten any of the expansion packs working, either. Roller coaster 2, on the other hand, sounds like it works nicer.

Well, it was perfect for me, I have a reeeeeeeeeealy old laptop with a 6 gb hard drive. Works on that and a coulple of old old old computers. I'm a linux newbie, and I just wanted to try it. But I'm trying to get the full OS now.

I've found RCT3 buggy overall, I'm starting to wish I hadn't got it in some ways. Can't get the expansion packs to work at all, this is apparently a very common problem. :( Stupid atari...

Not yet, it was one or more of the "critical updates" that were auto loaded into my machine from MS, I have yet to have the time to go back and load them one at a time manually. Once I do that, I will know which one it the culprit.
