Why have you taken the guard off? Answered

Rule No 1: never remove protective guards, and keep them accurately adjusted at all times

The guards are taken off for demonstration purposes. Defeating the safety of any tool is ill-advised. This is covered in the first Lesson on this Class.

Never ever for any reason use a tool without the guards on and properly adjusted

While this IS a good policy, the never ever doesn't always work. I personally don't know of a way to cut a dado with the guard in place.
