The 300 watt figure is just the Maximum Power the speakers are able to handle. The 85W figure is the maximum power the amp can put out. So yes, they will work fine on an 85W stereo. As a matter of fact, unless you enjoy blowing speakers, the speaker rating should always be higher than the amplifier rating.
Should be fine, as long as the impedance of the speakers and the amp are compatible it will be fine. You only have to worry if you are trying to drive the speakers too loudly as it could result in amplifier clipping.
Do you know if the wattage values you are quoting are measured in RMS or PMPO?
