can anybody make a light duty cnc outta an old scanners?

something to cut foam sheets and like materials ? and would it be strong enuf to use a dremel or sim tools as a milling head?

yes it is very much possible assuming your have done your homework on the parts that you will be using, google all motors numbers that you have and do what you need to do. your z axis motor although this is the most underrated axis and shortest axis will need a fairly powerful or high torque motor because it is the only axis that has to work against gravity and also hold the milling head at the required depth

Isn't a scanner limited to a single axis of movement?

Hence "scanners". I assume he's going to dissassemble several to make it 3 axis.
