.  Most mics are mono and most headphones are stereo. It should work if you use a headphone cable and two headphone connectors.

I'm not really sure what you want, but it sounds like you want to connect stereo audio-out (headphone socket) on the mp3 player to ?input on the radio/CD player in order to use the speaker(s) in that.

A Mic socket is not designed to take that kind of input, does the radio/CD player have an Aux-in connection or connectors?

You could take it apart, fit a switch and stereo connector, but you would need a soldering iron and to know what you were doing. So "yes you could", but I'm not at all surprised that you've not done it so far.
