You can buy an after-market battery with a higher mAh (milli-amp hours) rating. The battery in the controller that came with my new PS3 80gig says it's a 570mAh. You can get batteries online for it that are 1200-1800mAh. I just bought an 1800mAh from dealextreme.com for about 5 bucks which seems like a pretty good deal, but it hasn't arrived yet so I can't attest to it's quality.
You could also turn off vibration in your system settings.

I don't know how long our controller lasts but mine fully charges in about a half hour and last for about 4-5 hours may longer I think thats a really efficient battery most don't last that long like rc car batters for instance
plug it in lol
ps3's are expensive so if i were you i would take what i could get
If your battery isn't lasting as long as it used to, the battery may need replacing. If you look around, you can find some guides on replacing the battery, but it looks more or less straightforward. Your battery should be lasting quite a long time, I get several long gaming sessions out of a single charge. Though, batteries die, it may need replacing.
