Assuming you mean the electronic flash: That's a xenon flash tube. It's designed to put out a bright, but very BRIEF, flash of light. If you put enough circuitry behind it you could turn it into a strobe light; run that at a fast enough and -- if you don't overheat the flashtube, which wasn't designed for this application -- it might approach being usable as a flashlight.A lot of work for dubious odds of a not-very-good result. I wouldn't bother. There are better solutions.

well,I kinda assumed the answer but just wanted to be shure,I really appreciated the quick reply,I had some electronics training in the army,but its been years since I messed around with it again(back in '74-'77)so it's like starting over again in a way,I ran across the instructables site by accident,but glad I did,you guys,and everybody else who send in theire projects have opened my eyes to a whole new prspective on a lot of new things and I just want to say thanks to every one on a job well done and to every body who supports this web site.madyarddog.............

Kiteman: If I was gonna build a strobe, I'd start with a flashtube designed for the higher flash rate, but...REMINDER: STROBES CAN BE DANGEROUS. THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO TRIGGER EPILEPSY IN PEOPLE WITHOUT PRIOR HISTORY OF SEIZURES, AND MAY CAUSE LESSER DISORIENTATION IN OTHERS. IF AT ANY POINT YOU BEGIN TO FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WHEN PLAYING WITH RAPIDLY FLASHING LIGHTS, TURN THEM OFF OR GET AWAY FROM THEM. WHEN USING STROBES IN PUBLIC -- EG IN A THEATRICAL PRODUCTION -- POST WARNINGS THAT YOU ARE DOING SO.(There are specific frequencies which are most likely to cause trouble, having to do with the brain structures involved, but rather than get into that, just take it as generally Good Advice.)
No - one use only flash and it's gone.
