could anyone recommend a steam engine? Answered

I saw crazybuilders instructable on making a propeller driven skateboard, and that inspired me to make a prop driven gocart. I have also recently become interested in steampunk and I thought it would be awesome to use a small steam engine to power it. This is where it gets difficult. Could anyone recommend a steam engine powerful enough to drive two propellers fast enough to move me? (I weigh about 50 kilos)

The vast majority of pre-built steam engines, or steam engine kits, are far too small for the job - you will probably have to engineer your own engine from scratch, boiler and all.

For that, you need to talk to people who already build their own. Try these links as a starter.

Don't let that stop you - just be ready for a bigger job. Alternatively, you could stalk ebay looking for a larger engine.

Most of the engines are designed to do real work. You may get some ideas on how to build your own. Also, there is a lot of good information about heat sources, boilers, horsepower, future uses.

You'd be better with the steam engine driving wheels through a belt / chain / gears. Kiteman is right (of course) but you could use a small 2-stroke but make it look like a steam engine?
