a hard drive works like a record only instead of grooves it has magnetic patterns.

Unfortunately, hard drives are magnetic. However, you can get a nice strong magnet out of them.

a hardd drive does not have a laser. you NEED a DVD BURNER. Also, I believe any blu-ray drive would work. a hard drive works on the basis of a powerful magnet moving a read/write head.
