First of all, you might want to measure your progress with a tape measure around the waist rather than with a scale. Your health can be improving even if your weight remains constant- for example, if you get more muscle while reducing the fat. A reduction in belly fat is a very good indicator of a reduction in risk from all manner of obesity-related diseases.

Next, switching to a diet with more vegetables, less (or no) meat, and indulging only rarely in soda or restaurant food will be better for you in the long run. But you can still have weight loss on the same diet -- just eat less of everything. Getting smaller plates may help you to do this. Remember: calories in = calories out.

Walking is an excellent way to exercise, since you're much less likely to injure yourself than with other forms of exercise. Make an appointment to walk with a friend every single day (only cancelling if seriously ill ). If you have a pool available, swimming is another low-impact exercise that burns even more calories.

If you won't change what you eat there are two, and only two ways to lose weight: 1) Eat fewer calories. (Eat less). 2) Burn more calories. In this case going to a gym would help, but isn't necessary. There are lots of ways to exercise without going to a gym.
