how can i make an adapter for my cars cassette player to play an ipod? Answered

I want to be able to play my music on my ipod and my phone through their headphone jacks in my car but i only have a cassette player and dont want to buy the thing from radioshack how can i make something to do that?

Take an old cassete and pull out all of the tape.

Get some enameled magnet wire and wind a coil of about 50 turns around a small piece of foam so that it fits inside the window where the head reaches the tape.

Find a connector that fits your ipod and wire a 10 K ohm resistor in each feed wire but not the ground.

Solder the two resistors to one side of the coil and the ground to the other side of the coil.

put the cassette in the deck and plug in your mp3 player.

I made one of these a few years ago and it worked very well but only mono not stereo.

I have one of those FM broadcasters and it works really good. You can plug whatever you want into it and it broadcasts to your FM radio. It also works in any car so you take it with you as an attachment to your MP3 player. No modifications to anything are necessary.

IMHO your better off buying the tape adapter. The amount of time it will take you to remove the head unit from the car and make the modes is worth allot more then a $2 - $10 tape adapter. Also buy the adapter online since you can get it for as little as $2.

Open the cassette player, find the connections to the power amplifier and tap a socket into that. You'll have to arrange to disconnect the conenction from the tape player as well.
