how do you build a lcd flashlight with variable brightness?
the simplest way is to use a pot
high value pot (10 - 100 K) gives dimmer min brightness but low resolution in the hig brightness area
low value pot (100 ohm - 1 K) gives dimmer min brightness but low choice ability in the high brightness area
low value pot gives quite bright min brightness (you cant get the led dimmer than that) but good choice in the high brightness area
if you use a pwm driver (like 555) you can use the pot to alter its duty cycle. thats more efficient and gives you full choice from 0 to max brightness

Um with lcd flashlight? Don't you mean LED flashlight? Easy there is a couple with of doing this easy way you make a flashlight with x amount of LED then to dim you turn off some of the LEDS. Or the other way to build some sort of circuit that will dim your LED. The other thing to remember how bight do you want your flashlight to be. There are some super-bright LED on the market that will required a circuit to drive then you could build a dimmer into the circuit.
