You didn't mention how much wax or how big an area. If its more than a few dribbles you will need a different technique from the ones mentioned.

Step one: Chill the wax with some ice, and break what you can out of the carpet. The cold should make it brittle and easier to get some of the chunks out.Step two: Place a piece of brown paper sack over the wax and iron it up with a clothes iron. The paper will soak the melted wax out of the carpet in no time.
Pickout the worst lumps, then use brown paper and a hot clothes iron to soak it out.
