A quick check shows Kanathal wire as being what is used in ECigs. the rest is guess work.

that must be one heck of an e-cig to require "more power than a dimmer can provide" I suspect it's either

1) a spot heater (not to be confused with the next one)

2) an ignitor for something that's hard to ignite

3) a hot knife (plastics, foam, for instance)

4) possibly for an oven or for sintering (except the OP said "a small wire"

'Something more than a dimmer can provide' is not what I'd call a "small kanthal wire".

Is this the same person who was asking about nichrome the other day?

Specify the wire length, characteristic resistance (ie, ohms per unit length), and actual line voltage you intend to use.

I guess not. I was too lazy when I responded to search for the other post.

You want to power a small kanthal wire heating element with more... something... than a light dimmer can provide?

More precision than a light dimmer can provide?

More power than a light dimmer can provide?

More happiness than a light dimmer can provide?

A more clearly stated question would help a lot. Thanks.

;-)
