Can you use a mpf cap in a vttc for the tank circuit?
I don't think so, you want an air-gap I think. L

Are you talking about a vacuum capacitor? I'm not talking about a spark gap tesla coil, i mean a vacuum tube tesla coil. i know mpf cap isn't good for sgtc because of the harsh pulse, but the vttc is cw (continous wave) so there is no pulse. thanks and please answer. Paul
If its the topology I'm thinking of, all the caps need to be >>10kV operating. What's your circuit ? Steve
It's xellers vacuum tube tesla coil on instructables. Paul ( you havent updated your web site in 7 years)
If the cap's rated at >10kV you'll be fine. Like Xellers says, its a class C circuit, so there are high resonant peaks on the cap. Steve
so it doesn't mater the type of cap?
Not here too much.
