"my gun is powerful" Also all knex regulars please read message here Answered

OK I'm getting tired of everyone saying "my gun is...,powerful,..." Look at my instructables and you can tell I never used this statement. On my Stg44 I described how it depended on the rubber bands that you used which brings me to my next comment. Could we scrap the whole power stat and add how much power we get out of a standard rubberband? When it comes down to it it depends on what rubber bands and how many you use that determines a gun's strength. However there are a couple things on the gun that affect power-Firing pin length, friction of ammo and firing pin, length of rubber band placement, and other factors so instead of saying how powerful your gun is say how efficiently it can use like 1 medium rubber band or something. Just a thought. I know some of you do say how powerful your gun gets with just one rubberband but there are too many out there who don't describe the situation on when they consider it powerful. ~TheDunkis~ Also for any of you who consider yourself a knex regular please read this. I'm getting tired of people trying to get others to build what most the time ends up being crap because they lie about their gun on overboard. I know some of you guys do this already but could you include a paragraph similar to this (preferbly just copy and paste it in your instructables) if nothing else at least keep the whole "spread this message" part and also the started by TheDunkis part. If you are truly honest then you'll do this. Check my instructables for example. Notice how I'm completly honest and usually have more cons than pros. What does that mean? Well for one I need to come up with better guns :p but also I DID NOT include anything related to power only reliability of the weapon. We are starting a new campaign for seeing who is willing to be honest and add this list to their Instructables so please do the same with your Instructables or become one of the lieing scums. Please post this exact same thing (or slightly modified paragraph) in hopes that it may spread. Started by TheDunkis

I think if you say how many Rubber bands you use to get the distance stated, it would be fine.

Well maybe but still having a number and distance is harder than just having like one rubberband and a distance so you can see how well it does with a rubberband then they can leave it up to us to see how powerful it could get if you add more. I'm also getting tired when people are like "my gun can shoot 100'...with 20 rubberbands"

Ya. Anything suggested above would be great, but I dont think anyone will be able to enforce that rule, especially to all the knewbs who wouldent know about it....

I hate when people don't read everything...congrats on being a knexpert though. Lol quite a few of us consider it. I'm still not sure if people consider me a "knexpert" though like the other knexperts.

How's about a 7 1/2" band as a standard for larger guns and a #64 band for smaller guns?

here's the truth about my AR-4 commando. you have seen version 1.0, I have mentioned version 1.2 on my ible, but I'm at version 2.0 now...

nope. version 3.0 has a hopper, a bipod, and an impossibility for the ram to snap when pulled bad. this version is still in construction, but it should reduce jamming, and also it should be classified as a sniper after completion. I can still put a sight on the gun because it's attached to the top of the hopper

yea I am also tired of people over estimating or lying about there guns distance p.s you CAN NOT shoot a yellow rod more than 60 feet with a ram rod and without fins. inertia and wind resistance just makes it impossible

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

user
TheDunkis (author)ironman692008-06-10

Yeah exactly. Well it might be posible but you would need to over power it to the point that it takes more than human str. to pull back the pin. I'm going to start something that hopefully other true knexers follow. I'm going to post a pros and cons list on each of my guns and I'm also going to measure an honest distance. We can then judge who is a good knexer by seeing who is willing to do such a thing instead of making their gun look ultra good.

i don't agree on somethings. yes the "my gun is powerful" statement is misused a lot but its not half as bad when you add the rubberbands used. there is no way to determine the PE or power efficiency, and that to also depends the rubberbands, because it will handle the power of rubberbands different from rubber band to rubber band. and even if you could do all that, the only people who misuse that statement is n00bs. that name says it all, they are new and do not know what we want. my proof? SIMPLE BLOCK TRIGGER PISTOLS THAT ARE POSTED EVERY DAY!

TheDunkis (author)dsman1952762008-06-05

Well obviously rubber bands will still vary and that's why we should give good enough detail on the rubber band we used. PE would be easy to determine. Get some sort of standard testing gun probably a simply front loading block trigger either a blue or yellow rod long and your newly made gun and equip them with the exact same type of rubber band. I'm guessing that the newly made one would do better so then you compare this and that would be how much better your gun is able to use that one rubber band. You'll be able to roughly determine it PE this way. I know noobs do it too much. Also why I posted this topic was in hopes that noobs would see this. I still see regulars who post a new gun and guess which is one of the first things I read in the first couple sentences. Oh yeah just one thing I want to say. I don't see simple block triggers any more. One might be posted like every 2-3 weeks an sometimes they aren't that basic. But I'm going to look at the latest 5 new guns and see how many of those say their gun is powerful without a good explanation.

but, there is nothing to compare it to because you do not know the PE of the block trigger.

TheDunkis (author)dsman1952762008-06-05

That is why it is basic. I can't recall the name of the weapon but basically it was 5 grey connectors with an orange connector for the trigger. I use it to compare all my guns because it is small and so can't get as much power from a rubber band. It also has not as much friction. You don't need to know the PE of the gun because it's basically your "0" on the scale. Also an idea that I use for comparing is see how many rubber bands it takes on the small gun to equal the power of the main gun. Now I know I can't get everyone to use this as their standard but if we could and each had relatively the same rubber bands we would easily be able to compare everyone's guns.

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

user
dsman195276 (author)TheDunkis2008-06-05

you still cant call that a "0" but i do see how we could figure it out. NO GUN. thing about it, if you were to take a rubber band and stretch it out and shoot a knex piece with it that would the most amount you could get out of it. so that would be your 100% to compare so everything else. you could figure out the PE from that. in fact i will go do that.

TheDunkis (author)dsman1952762008-06-05

hmm there's a good idea except there will be problems with just how much you can stretch the rubberband. I guess you'd have to build some sort of basic sling shot and then the gun's PE would be based on a percentage out of 100.
