Search this site. Click on Workshop → Cars, type in "paint your car" and click graphical search.

There is a heap of stuff.

Go to the book store. There are lots of "paint your own car at home" books out there. And yes it really is that much to learn that it should take a book to learn it.

+1. On the other hand, if all you need to do is touch-up of a small area, and you don't care if the color is off a bit, you may be able to get by with a dewaxer, a wire brush, a rust-converting primer, and a matching spray paint.

That would be extremely hard and really shouldn't be carried out (depends on what car) by anything less than a professional.
