Hmmm 5.1 isn't a possibility but an amp with six outputs could do the trick, it gets complicated with the woofer though, the five speakers could be use to make a super stereo though, two either side for left/right stereo and one up front as mono...

Music is being recorded on some DVDs in 5.1! In fact the technology is out there to record in 7.1 but no company has started producing DVDs with it yet.

If you are starting with stereo output from an MP3 player, two channels is all you can get in your speakers. You need an amp that will output 5.1 or 7.1 to use your speakers to their full potential. Look around for a budget amp. Or you might look on the back of your computer. You might already have 5.1 coming out of your sound card. Even if you have 5.1 coming from your sound card, you still will not get 5.1 UNLESS your input source was originally recorded in 5.1. For this you will be looking at movies on DVD. Or maybe someone else knows if music is now being recorded in 5.1??? I don't know about that, but it would be cool. Still you will not get it out of your MP3 player unless it has jacks for front, center/subwoofer, and back.
