where can i find pure copper and zinc strips? Answered

I need several strips of copper and zinc for a science project but its frustratingly hard to find zinc anywhere in the Seattle area. I have already tried the local electronics store and plumbing store. Can you guys suggest anything not outrageously expensive and within an hour driving distance?

Well, I saw such similar questions in many times,I got many kinds of metal strips from ZR INDUSTRIAL LTD, cheaper and quality is ok for my application(PS: the materials I bought is 30-50um thick of Tantalum, Titanium, Niobium, Magnesium, Zinc , Tin, Vanadium), I had a cash discount code , but I am not sure if it could be for anyone else. You may contact the sales person info@zrindustrial.com, its website is www.zrindustrial.com.Good Luck!

US pennies made after 1982 are copper plated / 97.5% zinc inside. All you have to do is sand off the thin copper coating. It's legal as long as you don't try to use them again as money.

i think you are trying to make a battery type thing.you may use alluminium foil instead of zinc and copper penny or dime or quarter which are made of steel or copper for the battery instead of copper strip.

goto a scrap metal dealer, almost every city or town has one, and they will direct you to where to find the metals your looking for, infact they may very well have what you want, and zinc is cheap, but copper thats another story but if your willing to sand off the top layer of corrosion you might find your self a deal ..... Or for zinc you could always melt down a few new pennies....

You can try a roofing supply or Home Depot. Copper sheet is sold in small rolls used for flashing/waterproofing which can be cut into strips. They might also have the pure zinc strips which is nailed to roofs as an algaecide mold preventer when rain washes particles off of it. If not, can you use the biggest galvanized nails they have which are hot/cold dipped in zinc as a rust preventative for exterior use nails? They sell them as big as railroad spikes.

Try a boating store. Zinc is sometimes used to prevent corrosion of metal hulls. (I don't know that I've see "strips"...) Alternately, take apart a non-alkaline dry-cell battery...
