wind turbine speed? Answered


i have herd that the minimum amount of wind required to power a (homemade) wind turbine is 10 m.p.h. is that true? and whats the maximum wind speed?

the faster it spins the more electricity it makes so probably above 10

That wasn't the question. The minimum speed is around 15 km/hr, as the poster asked, and the maximum is typically around 45-50 km/hr. The faster the turbine moves, the more vibration and the more stress on the bearings.

but also the more power to the generator but yes if you went higher than 50 or whatever then it would probably break

.  It depends on your equipment, but 8-10 mph is a good ballpark figure.
.  Maximum speed also depends on your equipment and how well it is put together.
