Introduction: 1 Brisket, 5 Appetizers

A single brisket, even the smallest one you can find, is a lot of meat, and if you go to the grocery store hungry and hunting for a brisket, woe unto you!

However, with that enormous 20lb brisket you bought because you're stupid and, at this point, should know better than to go to the grocery store on an empty stomach, you can easily set out a mountain of food for your next party without much effort, so long as you managed to cook the brisket properly and spent the past 24 hours doing so...

Anyway, this Instructable shows how to make 5 super cute appetizers using brisket.

Step 1: Brisket on a Stick

  • Brisket Slices
  • Bamboo Skewers
  • Dipping Sauces

  1. Slice the brisket when it's cold for evenly thin slices.
  2. Warm the brisket and run a skewer through it.
  3. Serve with a mixture of dipping sauces such as BBQ sauce, ranch dressing, and mysterious green sauce (literally called "That Green Sauce").

Tip:  Put out a can of sterno so your guests can warm the brisket slightly before dipping.

Step 2: Mini Taco Salads

  • Chopped Brisket
  • Tostitos Scoops
  • Shredded Lettuce
  • Pico de Gallo
  • Sour Cream

Optional Ingredients:
  • Refried Beans
  • Hot Sauce
  • Salsa
  • Any other typical taco salad ingredient...

  1. Pile that stuff in!

Step 3: Brisket in a Blanket

  • Sliced Brisket (preferably the moist/fatty kind)
  • Can o' Crescent Rolls

  1. Roll the slices of brisket in each crescent roll.
  2. Bake according to the directions on the can.

Tip:  Make these miniature for the cute factor!

Step 4: Mini Stuffed Potatoes

  • Chopped Brisket
  • Fingerling Potatoes
  • Sour Cream
  • Chives
  • Oil
  • Salt

Optional Ingredients:
  • Cheese
  • Butter
  • Bacon Bits
  • Anything you'd normally find on a stuffed potato

  • Poke a few holes in each potato and coat in oil and salt.
  • Microwave the potatoes until soft.  Note:  I cooked mine for 12-15 minutes at 50% power.
  • Slice open and load those puppies up!

Step 5: Mini Shepherd Pies

  • 1 cup Chopped Brisket
  • 1/2 cup Frozen Peas
  • 1/2 cup Frozen Diced Carrots
  • 1/2 cup Frozen Corn
  • Instant White Gravy Mix
  • 2 cups Instant Mashed Potatoes
  • 60-75 Mini Fillo Shells (from the frozen section)

Note:  I used peppered white gravy and garlic instant mashed potatoes, and if you don't want so many mini pies, cut the recipe or pull out a frozen pie shell for the leftovers.

  1. Make the gravy according to the instructions.
  2. Add the frozen vegetables and brisket and cook a little longer.
  3. Make the instant mashed potatoes.
  4. Fill mini fillo shells to the top with the gravy/vegetable/brisket mix and top with a layer of mashed potatoes.  Note: a butter knife easily spreads the mashed potatoes.
  5. Bake according to the directions for the shells.
  6. If you have a cooking torch, brown the mashed potatoes a little bit.

So there you have it!  1 Brisket, 5 Appetizers.

    You could get fancy and pipe the mashed potatoes with a cake decorator bag. Or not-so-fancy - a ziploc bag with the corner cut off. Might be easier/cleaner than the spoon/knife method.

    Thanks! I got lucky with the photos since the sun was quickly setting, and I didn't want to pull the artificial lighting.
