Intro: 2 Minute Toaster Oven Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwich

I wanted something quick and hot to eat so I decided to make toast.  Then I thought, "maybe I'll put some cheese on the toast to add protein."  I found the ham with the cheese and decided to put that on too. The result was so tasty I decided to make this my first instructable.

STEP 1: Ingredients and Tools

1.  Toaster Oven
2. 2 slices of bread
3. 2 slices of american cheese
4. 2 slices of ham

STEP 2: Easy As Toast

Set the toast setting to "light".  Put the 2 slices of bread in the oven and toast for 1 minute.  (This is assuming that you are starting with a cold oven")

STEP 3: Add the Cheese

Open the oven and carefully place a slice of cheese on each slice of bread making sure the cheese does not hang over the edge of the bread.  Close the toaster oven door and toast for 20 -30 seconds.

STEP 4: Add the Ham

Open the toaster oven door and place a piece of ham on top of the cheese making sure it does not hang off the edge of the bread.  Close the toaster oven door and continue toasting the bread for another 30 seconds or until the edges of the bread turn brown.

STEP 5: Get Ready to Eat

Place one slice of the toasted bread, cheese and ham on a plate and flip the other piece over and place on top to form a sandwich.    You could butter the toast to make it extra tasty but I didn't want the extra fat.

Slice and enjoy.

I love your toaster oven! It is the same exact model my parents had in the late 70's and 80's. I have a Black & Decker toaster oven that is not much bigger than yours. I have been making this type of sandwich in my toaster oven since I saw a co-worker make one, at work, before I left my job in 2012. I just place the cheese and ham directly on my bread before it goes into the toaster oven. I just set the heat to medium and let the toaster go through it's whole cycle. I then pull the slices out, place them on a plate and put them together. Fast and easy!

Nicely toasted, a little pepper would finish this I think?
