Introduction: 2D Rubik Game for Toddlers

For Thaïs, 4 years and a half, I made a '2D rubik game'.

The board has 4 * 3 colored pawns, that can run through a circuit. There are extra strokes on the sides to allow to store a pawn.

Cards show the combination to achieve.

The kid needs to find a strategy to move from the current pattern to the card pattern.

A friend of mine which is speech therapist told me that it is a nice game to develop kids.

Step 1: Prepare the Pawns

I cut the pawns from a wood curtain bar with the scroll saw, using a guide to have all the same size.

After finding the center, I drilled a hole which doesn't go through for a trunnion.

The trunnions are also cut all the same size.

Step 2: Create the Circuit in the Board.

I used a router to create the circuit.

Not so easy to guide it, and the thickness is big (it burned a little bit in some areas), but at the end it is not so bad.

Step 3: Paint the Pawns

I used spray paint (a lot) to paint the pawns in 4 nice colors.

A face has to remain unpainted since it will slide on the board and will not be visible, it makes the work easier.

Step 4: Assemble

Two pawns and a trunnion are bonded together with the board in the middle.

Step 5: Cards

I used powerpoint to create the cards and printed them on a thick paper.

I laminated the cards with plastic and cut around.

Step 6: Demo

I put legs on the board so that it stands vertical.

Ready to play!
