Introduction: 3D Modeling- How to Make a Halloween Pumpkin

Need a Halloween activity that involves 3D modeling? We have the solution for you.
The objective of this project is to create a decorative piece with a festive halloween theme involving 3d modeling and problem solving. To the students we give the tools: a led and a caliper and thus they discovered the necessary measures in the execution of the project.

Learning objectives, skills and competences:

®    Know a variety of strategies and tools to support creativity and innovation, using analysis criteria;

®    Identify problems and/or solvable situations with the creation of 3D printable objects;

®    Generate and record ideas, represent thoughts and develop work plans, identifying and using suitable digital technologies to work with traditions and festive themes.

Activities and roles:

Students will:

®    Adapt or develop activities that help raise awareness of different cultures.

®    Create and model real-life 3D objects.

®    Reflect, sharing your experience with others.

The teacher will help students explore 3D modeling concepts by explaining the tools to: create, duplicate and group with tinkercad software. In addition, the teacher will develop critical and creative thinking in students, guiding them through a practical demonstration of the different steps of building the object. The teacher will also be able to develop the programming activity in blocks that combines programming knowledge with 3D modeling.

Material and resources needed:

·       Computers, tablets or smartphones with internet connection;

·       Optionally, a video projector or interactive whiteboard.

·       Statement with demonstrative video and necessary steps for execution.

·       Led or candy

·       caliper

Supplies

Step 1: Login Tinkercad

Let's start with the Halloween project with tinkercad.

Objective: The teacher will demonstrate some techniques in drawing for this theme. For this purpose, the teacher can view the video and train in:https://tinyurl.com/2p83d6hd

Students will then use their creativity to “virtually sculpt” the face of their Halloween pumpkin.

steps

1.     https://www.tinkercad.com

2.     In the left menu, select 3D Projects - new design in tinkercad.

3.     Choose new project.

4.     Give the file a name: halloween_class_name.

5.     Choose the basic shape: sphere measuring 15*45.

Step 2: Create the Pattern

6.     Duplicate the object and rotate 22.5 or -22,5 degrees.

7.     Duplicate several times until reaching the full pumpkin shape (approximately 6x).

8.     Select all objects and group.

9.     Change height to 45, length 60, and width 60.

Step 3: Apply Hole

10.     Duplicate object, move right, apply hole. Change the size of the second object aprox -3mm. Align the two objects to the center. To be hollow inside.

11.     Agroup.

Step 4: Agroup

12.     Agroup.

13.     Now stud the pumpkin face creatively using the basic shapes or scribble (example using the roof for the eyes and the rounded roof for the mouth.

14.    Agroup.

Step 5:

15.Create a support base/foot on the work plane. Add a cube, approximately 1 to 2 mm high and covering the entire lower surface of the pumpkin.

16.Group without drilling into the background. If so, change the box height again before and group again.
