Introduction: 3D PRINTED BELT AND BUCKLE-REMIX

In this instructable I will show you how I remixed a very interesting design for a 3d belt and buckle that I found on Instagram, uploaded by Thingiverse. Although my inspiration was an existing model, my model is completely different and easier to use for me.

Step 1: INSPIRATION

This is the model from which I got inspiration and created my printable belt and buckle.

For my version of the model, I strongly insisted on using the benefits of flexible materials such as TPU and TPE for the belt and the strength and aesthetics of PET materials for the buckle.

Step 2: MODELING & SLICING

In order to start modeling I first needed to measure waist perimeters, dimensions and thickness of various belts in order to create a model that is usable and realistic. One very important thing was the trial and error tests in order to find the perfect thickness for the belt, considering the fact that I would print it with flexible materials. The thickness of the belt would be the gauge to form the holes and gaps on the buckle. The holes should be wide enough to let the belt slide in and out but also hold it tight and not loose.

When slicing the buckle the flat surface was aligned with the printing bed in order to reinforce the model with the infill. For the buckle I used PET filament whereas for the the belt I used TPU filament. The TPU material in combination with the thickness of the belt, make the model bend and feel like leather.

Step 3: FINAL MODEL

This is the final model, easy to print and play with various colours and materials for the belt and buckle!
