Introduction: 3D PRINTED MAZE

About: i'm an industrial designer who believe in spreading the new technologies and options that this open-source world gives us! I like to design and to make and to challenge myself.

This project is a process of drawing a maze on a paper and making it a real 3D printed maze that is cool for plaiyng and giving it to others to play.

The size of this maze is 45X62X7.5 , need around 1hour to print out.

Let's start to design with paper, pencil & black marker.

second level is to scan it and making it as an Vector file, I recommend Inkscape software for it-https://inkscape.org/en/ (because at the end you need and SVG file)

Then we gonna design the model -Design Software: 123D Design Desktop (Get from: http://www.123dapp.com/design )

For printing, I used- Printer: Ultimaker2 Filament: PLA

Step 1: Draw Your Maze

To draw it and upload it easily, start with a pencil, then highlight with black marker and erase the pencil.
Try to make a hard maze so it won't be easy for others to finish it.

When you finish drawing the maze, scan the drawing to your computer (its easy to do it with you mobile..)

Step 2: Tracing the Drawing Into SVG File

1. Upload your drawing by scanning it or even just a clear photo by your mobile.

2. Now we want to make it a vector and save this file as SVG:
- insert the picture into the software
-trace it with Path-"trace bitmap" and keep just the outline of the shape.
-now delete the original picture and keep just the vector.
-save as SVG

Step 3: Converting the Vector Into 3d Model

1. Import the SVG file you created. Iport as SVG (not solid)
2. Use the "extrude" option and lift the sketch as you can see in the example
(minimum 3 mm)

Step 4: Creating a Base for the Maze

1. On the plane, draw a rectangle that fits to the border of the maze
2.Extrude the rectangle about 2 mm. choose the option of merging it with the maze.

Step 5: 2 Holes for the Marble

1. On the "floor" of the maze, draw two circles- one in the beginning point of the maze, and one in the end.
2. Extrude cut the two holes for about 0.6 mm.

Step 6: Get Ready to Print!

I used Ultimaker 2.
Decided to scale down the size of the maze so it won't take to much time...

Step 7: Checking Out the Model

Step 8: Create a Transparent Cover to the Maze

You can use a transparent plastic sheet or laser cut it feet to the size of the maze.
1. Mark the outline of the maze.
2. cut the rectangle by the marks.
3. take a small marble (you can use candy cake decoration...) and put it inside the maze.
4. glue the plastic sheet to the top edges of the maze.

Step 9: Get Ready to Play!

enjoy :)
