3D Printed Mechanical Flash Drive

Intro: 3D Printed Mechanical Flash Drive

With a 3D printer I would print my custom designed flash drive housing. This housing would hold a micro flash drive and be the same size as a regular flash drive. In the center of the housing there are 5 planetary gears that all rotate when the outer dark colored wheel is spun by hand. I have always wanted to do this project but never had the 3D printer to accomplish it. With the MakerBot® Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D Printer my dream could become a reality. I uploaded the SketchUp files so you can look at it in 3D or print it for yourself.
Thanks, Zach

Hi great idea... what kind of 3D printer do you use? Or recomend.
Hey there fella, AutoDesk's Facebook constantly holds competitions for designs...& if you win you can get you product 3D printed! Give it a go ah?
there are online services where you can upload your model to and they 3d print it and mail it to you. i've never used them, but there are tons of instructables for using them. you should try them out. i'd love to see a real working flash drive of this design. your design is awesome!
