Intro: 555 Timer Blink Circuit!

In this instructable i will show you how to make a 555 Timer Blink Circuit!

STEP 1: What You Need

What You Need To Build The Circuit-

1x 555 timer ic,

1x 33uf, (or any capacitor the higher uf the lower the blink rate!)

1x 10k Resistor,

1x 1k Resistor,

1x 270 ohm resistor,

1x LED,

1x 9 volt battery clip,

1x 9 volt battery,

3x Breadboard jumper wires,

1x Breadboard.

To make the build easier i have provided the schematic above!

STEP 2:

Start by placing the 555 timer on the breadboard. Then place a 33uf capacitor with the positive leg on pin 2 and the negative on pin 1.

STEP 3:

Now place a jumper wire connecting pin 2 and 6 together.

STEP 4:

Place the 270 ohm resistor from pin 3 to an spare hole on the breadboard.

STEP 5:

Now connect the LED's positive leg to the free side of the 270 ohm resistor and the negative leg to GND.

STEP 6:

Connect one side of the 1K resistor to pin 7 and the other side to pin 8

STEP 7:

Now place a 10K resistor connecting pin 6 and 7 together.

STEP 8:

Lastly connect pin 1 to GND and pin 8 To Positive and connect the 9 volt battery.

STEP 9: Done


Your Led Should Now Start Blinking If Not Check Your Wiring And Remember To Use The Schematic!

Very nice project. I put a potentiometer in place of the 10k resistor so I could adjust how fast the led blinks.

Could be maybe great to have the NE555 pin connection (tresh,trig,…) more described but anyway, thanks :)

Been using 555s for years, probably the first chip after a 7400 I ever used...!

A great way to introduce analogue electronics in this digital age.
