7 Minute Dial Indicator Holder

With a background in machining and working with tolerances of +-.005 everyday. I never liked using my tape measure to the alignment of my fence. As well when checking my blade alignment.

So with that I finally got a dial indicator to give me precision I am looking for. After buying the dial indicator I considered purchasing a magnetic base to house the indicator. But I thought I could build something utilizing the miter slots on the table saw.

Supplies Needed

• Scrap Lumber (I used a 1x4)
• Dial indicator

Step 1: 1. Preparing Material

You can make your holder out of size of material you desire. Only one limitation is that it must reach to your miter slots so you have the ability to put a miter slide on the bottom of your block. As I stated in the first slide I used 1x4 material but that's just what I picked up first

Once your material has been chosen cut it 4.5"

Step 2: Measure Your Dial Indicator

• Take the time to measure the width of your dial indicator mounting tab on the back.
• Transfer the width of indicator tab to your work piece
• Begin cutting away the marked area like you would for a stop dado.
• Take your time and check the fit after each pass while looking for a snug fit.

Step 3: Making the Miter Slide

• Measure the width of your miter slots and begin cutting to the determined size
• Make sure that the height of the slide is at flush or below flush and fits snug.

Step 4: Attach the Miter Slide

To attach my miter slide to the base piece I simply used glued and then clamped it together with some 1 1/4" brad nails. Durning assembly I made sure that the miter slide stayed square to the base piece.

Step 5: Final

Now you have completed cheap and easy dial indicator holder. This 5 min project will give you the ability to really dial in your table saw. Which in turn makes for a lot more enjoyable time in the shop.
