Supplies

  • Styrofoam sheet
  • A Marker
  • Knife
  • Glue
  • Carving Tool
  • GI Wire
  • Concrete and sand
  • Paint and Brushes

Step 1: Figuring the Cat Structure

  • Sketch the cat shape outline on paper, determining the size and proportions.
  • Decide on the dimensions of the table (length, width, and height) based on your space and the desired size of the cat shape.
  • Layout the design on the styrofoam sheet and cut out the shape.

Step 2: The Formation

  • Mix the concrete according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a smooth consistency.
  • Pour the concrete into the mold, tapping the sides to release air bubbles.
  • Place the reinforcement (metal mesh or rebar) into the concrete for added strength. And insert 4-5 GI bars for the tail and its support. Then let it dry.

Step 3: Table Top Making

  • Measure and mark the styrofoam sheet according to the size and shape you want for your tabletop. Here we made an oval shape.
  • Use the utility knife to carefully cut along the markings.
  • Apply concrete and reinforcement to make it strong and long lasting.

Step 4: The Tail Making

  • After the cat figure has dried up, it was time to make its tail.
  • Bend the GI wire into the desired shape for the tail and support, leaving extra length at the base to support it to the table.
  • Once the tail-support is secured, cover the GI with concrete-cloths and rest it to the table.

Step 5: The Face Making

  • Sketch the cat face design using the carving tools, considering the size and shape of your tabletop.
  • Pay attention to details like the eyes, nose, mouth, to avoid any kind of mistakes.

Step 6: Enhancing With Colour

  • Use a small brush to paint the eyes. Start with the base color and add details such as pupils and reflections.
  • Paint the nose in a contrasting color to make it stand out. Add texture and shading for a realistic look.
  • Use a fine brush to paint the mouth. Add details like lips and whisker spots.
