Introduction: A Multi Color Premium Paper Kite

About: Hi there. This is Vikas from India, an engineer and hobbyist of DIY crafts and projects. I keep exploring possibilities of making something on my own. Sometimes i succeed and sometimes i learn from mistakes. B…

Since my childhood i have been flying kites till i grew up and started working away from my hometown. I always used to make my own kites rather than buying from store. The first kites weren't successful but slowly i learnt and started making the best kites, from basic to premium with different colors and materials, with and without long tails. Even today when i see any kite up in the sky, i start wandering and recollect my memories of kite flying.

Supplies

  1. Kite paper - different colors or single color as required. (Any size)
  2. Scissors
  3. Glue
  4. Bamboo sticks (Very thin sliced) or Coconut leaf sticks. - 2 nos.

Step 1: Paper and Color Selection

Select any color paper as per your choice and make them perfect squares of all equal sizes.

Step 2: Cutting the Paper As Per Design Required

Cut the paper as per required design, i have split each square in two halves diagonally for making triangles of different colors. You may omit the colors which you don't like upon assembly.

Step 3: Joining the Paper Pieces

Join different colors of papers as per your choice by applying glue in the middle and sticking each other by placing any one over the other. Repeat the same to form two colored squares. Now join all the 4 squares in any order as per design required to form a single big square with multi colors. Trim the top and bottom of the paper as indicated with dotted lines to give it a shape.

Step 4: Sticking the Vertical Stick

Apply glue vertically in the middle in straight line where the stick will be placed. Trim the excess stick after placing over glue. Press firmly and allow it to dry.

Step 5: Sticking the Curved Stick

Take another stick and slightly bend at an angle if 45 degree. Allowing it to take a permanent shape so as to form a curve. Be careful while doing so, you may break the stick. Repeat the bending on both sides for a proper curve. Then apply glue on one side of the paper, place the end of stick over the glue and fold it to stick firmly with the paper. Repeat the same on the other side for completing the curved stick. Cut any excess stick or alternatively you can measure it prior to sticking.

Step 6: Making and Sticking the Tail

Take two triangles of paper. Apply glue on one of them, and place two small sticks on it. Add another piece of paper over it using glue and press firmly to cover the sticks between the two papers at the bottom of the kite.

Step 7: Stick Paper on Top of Kite

Cut a small square of paper and paste it with a glue on the top of the kite inorder to give support to the vertical stick.

Step 8: Ready to Fly

Finally, let it dry for few minutes depending on the type of glue to let it dry and the colorful paper kite is ready to fly.
