A Rose by Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet

my goal is to show you how to draw or paint a rose well- even if you are art-challenged- as many of us can be. thanks for taking the time to view this.

Step 1: Step 1- the Rosebud

-paint 2 curved lines that meet at the bottom to form an incomplete slightly curved triangle

Step 2: Step 2- the Rosebud Continued

-finish your rosebud by placing 3 half circles ending in the same point (the middle of the top of the bud). add additional half circles if needed to make your rosebud natural yet pleasingly symmetrical and even.

Step 3: Step 3- the Rose Petals

- form the first few petals by creating semicircles that start and end at the bud with slight bumps you form near the center of each petal by moving your brush up then down in a small range once or twice to create natural ridges of the petals that form from petal growth and decay.

Step 4: Step 4- the Rose Petals- Completed

- to finish the petals create more semicircles that this time end at the edges of other petals instead of the bud- with the same form other than making the petals slightly larger with each inch away from the bud- with larger ridges as well that indicate larger growth and decay. resolve the petals when you feel you have enough- as long as they resolve in even stretches from the bud.

-to create a stem draw a long thin line that you shade the edges of to appear darker. add thorns periodically on either sides of your 2 dimensional stem, shade them ivory darker towards the center not the edges. a stem is not entirely necessary- just draw a bud if that is easier for you.
