A Frugal Fresh Look for Cut Flowers

Introduction: A Frugal Fresh Look for Cut Flowers

My daughter came up wth a great idea that was frugal and amazing so I wanted to share it with you.  We had these simple cut flowers in a simple vase and they needed some pep!   Her frugal solution was to use the paper and ribbon from the flowers to dress up the vase.    A plain vase is sweet and pretty, but some flowers are not gorgeous in the vase and some vases are HO-HUM and sometimes you are just sick of the vase you have.  This project delivers on solving any of these problems.

Step 1: Use What You Have :)

In this case, the lovely tulips came in some brown plastic wrap with gold swirls on it.  It also had a red ribbon around the box.  We held the plastic wrap against the vase to see how much of the paper needed to be folded under.  We decided to fold 1/3 of the paper down and then wrapped the paper loosely around the  vase with the folded edge at the bottom of the vase.  The unfolded edge was at the top, around the flowers.

Step 2: Wrap the Plastic Wrap and Tie It On

As you can see, we did not line it up prefectly while we wrapped it, just got it so that it was snugged up around the widest part of the vase and then tied the ribbon around the narrowest part of the vase.  We then adjusted the brown paper down to sit on the counter at the bottom.  We seperated the layers where they overlapped at the top and folded them back like a collar on a jacket.  You could opt to put the gold swirls on the inside to  show them off at the top of the vase if you liked that better.

Step 3:

Tah-Dah!  A lovely display of cut flowers that looks like it is still wrapped in it's delivery wrap, but self-standing.  We tied the balloon that came with the flowers to the ribbon in the back and it was lovely for many days this way.  Note of caution!  Check water level daily and add fresh water as needed.  With the colored paper on there it is easy to forget to check.  :)
