To hold batteries for my projects i have built holders out of old chapstick tubes
first pull out all the insides
bend two paper clips into spirals
make a hole in the cap
place one paper clip in each end
hot glue the paper clips in place
you are now done

Looks interesting- definitely would be useful for something showy or a prop where the tube could be used as a "greeble".
