APC UPS RS 1000 USB Conversion
Intro: APC UPS RS 1000 USB Conversion
Hi all,
I have just been given an Uninteruptable Power Supply. Great! One drawback, no cables!
It needed:
1 x USB to RJ50 cable
RJ50 cables look like normal ethernet RJ45 cables but have 10 pins not 8.
At least 1 kettle lead with a male connection one end and a female connection the other.
I looked at making a cable, but i would need an RJ50 plug. That wouldn't do! I will replace the socket instead.

STEP 1: Popping It Open
I popped it open to see if adding/replacing the data port was a viable option.
STEP 2: Removing the Rear Facia
STEP 3: Cable Layout
STEP 4: No Idea What This Port Is For, But Thr RJ50 Socket at the Bottom in Black
STEP 5: The Board Completely Removed

Thanks for posting this! I used this to mod my APC Back-UPS XS 1000 instead of buying the proprietary cable. Soldering the USB Type-B receptacle (which I got out of an old card reader) was a pain, but after the third try, I got it to work. I used electrical tape to wrap it to the RJ-50 socket (it appears like that's what you did) and used a Dremel to cut out the opening.
