Materials Needed:
1 t-shirt (you can either use your regular size or go up one)
1 pair of scissors
1 sharpie, clothing, or permanent marker
1 ruler or tape measure
Step 1: Preparation
Lay the t-shirt on a flat, even surface with the front side facing up.
Step 2: Measure the Sleeves
Measure 1.5 inches from the seam of the left sleeve. Mark your cutting points with your marker. Repeat on the other side.
Step 3: Cut the Sleeves
Using your scissors, cut along the lines you have just made. Do this for both sides.
Step 4: Measure the Collar
At 1 inch from the collar’s seam, mark your cutting points with your marker. Only do this to the front of the shirt.
Step 5: Cut the Collar
Using your scissors, cut along the lines you have just made.
Step 6: Flip the Shirt
Flip your shirt over so that the back side is facing up. Make sure it is kept on a flat and even surface.
Step 7: Measure the Back
From the center of the collar, mark 5 inches down using your ruler and marker.
Step 8: Measure and Mark the Back
From the mark made in Step 7, move your ruler or tape measure so that it aligns with the top right corner of the collar. Using your marker, make your cutting points. Repeat on the other side.
Step 9: Cut the Back
Using your scissors, cut along the lines you have just made.
Step 10: Cut the Dismembered Sleeve
Using your scissors, cut open one of the dismembered sleeves so that it lays flat.
Step 11: Cut Strips
Cut 3 - 5 strips out of the sleeve material. These will be used to tie the back of the tank-top.
Step 12: Reposition Shirt
Take your tank-top and lay it so that the two arm-holes line up with one another.
Step 13: Tie the Back
Using the strips cut out in Step 11, take the side where the back half of the shirt is showing and wrap them around. To secure the strips in place, tie knots.
Step 14: Make Sure Everything Looks Good
Lay your shirt flat so that the back of the shirt is facing up. Make sure the knots are secure and everything looks good. Once you have done this, your tank-top is complete.
